Middle East gears up for major touring acts

SLS Productions has have upped their game by welcoming what they claim to be the largest line-array system in the Middle East.

Audiotechnews imagines theJBL VerTec 4889 system was added to their inventory due to coming under fire for being heavily under-powered when it comes to major touring acts, as reported by Proaudiomiddleeast

Santana will act as the guinea pig for the system, presumably by way of apology for that facial hair.

Arabian Business reports:

We were considering investing in the 4889 cabinets, which are the largest in the VerTec range,” said Martin Luiz, MD of SLS.

“When we were offered the job of providing the equipment for a huge event in Ethiopia, the decision was made for us.”

The concert, which is still to be confirmed, is expected to be staged in Addis Ababa’s main stadium, which has a capacity of 300,000. Luiz said SLS will consider flying the new system to other regional locations if the right opportunity presented itself.

Luiz said the company was currently scouting for larger warehouse premises, adding he was hopeful of securing a location early in the New Year.

I’ll let you know when they find a location. Anyone wanting a shed load of cheap taupaulin, you know who to ask…

Google gives data backup to music lovers

Following on from yesterday’s post about Interoute’s online attachment scheme (which they featured on the front page of their website, thanks) - Google has announced an imminent new service that is going to be a godsend for millions; online mass data storage which can obviously be used as a backup for all your files, or even a security measure if you’re one of those guys who keeps getting your laptop stolen.

“Google is hoping to distinguish itself from existing online storage services partly by simplifying the process for transferring and opening files. Along with a Web-based interface, Google is trying to let users upload and access files directly from their PC desktops and have the file storage behave for consumers more like another hard drive that is handy at all times”.

Plans are to assimilate the service with already existing Google tools so everything can be accessed from a single search box. Pretty cool eh?

Maybe some things sound so good, you want to hear them echo around the halls. Evidently Albert is one of those halls, as Sound By Design Ltd have installed a new system geared around Meyer Sound M1D ultracompact and M2D compact curvilinear array loudspeakers.

“The new system features 10 M2D cabinets, 20 M1D cabinets, two M1D-Sub ultracompact subwoofers, and one M2D-Sub compact subwoofer. Six UPA-1P compact wide coverage loudspeakers provide coverage to the seating surrounding either side of the hall’s famed pipe organ. A Galileo loudspeaker management system handles system drive and processing. ”

“Additional groundstacked components, including four additional UPA-1P units, four UPM-1P ultracompact wide coverage loudspeakers, two UPJ-1P compact VariO loudspeakers, and four 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofers, can be employed when needed.”
